There are so many distilleries in Scotland alone and within each distillery there are often numerous different expressions (types). Then when you consider the number of different countries that produce Whisky and Whiskey the choice becomes extensive. Add to this with the number of blends and independent bottling’s and the choice can be mind boggling.
I wanted to join a Whisky Club to help me to learn more about Whisky and to try new things. Having looked for Whisky tasting sessions/ clubs in and around Gloucestershire it seemed that the barrel was dry. It was at this point that the idea of Stroud Whisky Club was born.
Stroud Whisky Club was founded in early 2013 with a very simple brief. This was to create a fun, social environment in which to try different Whiskies and meet with like-minded people.
I approached a local pub and explained what I was trying to do. The Ram Inn of Woodchester kindly agreed to allow me to host my meetings there and has been very supportive with the formation of the club. It has everything I could possibly want, beautiful location, excellent facilities, ample parking, central to the area plus a room we can have to hold the meetings in.
Several months on membership has grown, we are approaching our 4th monthly meeting and already have quite a substantial collection of great Whisky in our club vault.
None of us are “experts” but we are enthusiastic amateurs who are keen to discover and learn about the drink we love. We are a good bunch of people who enjoy having fun, sharing opinions and enjoying a nice glass of the “water of life”.
We will be reviewing the Whiskies that we have tried and will be sharing our thoughts and opinions here.
